Mapping The Boiling Point: Dynamically Tracking Workload to Understand Heat Stress Exposure
Tuesday, May 23 | 9:00 am and 2:30pm | Innovation Station
Heat stress is a serious occupational hazard that can lead to heat exhaustion, heat stroke, fatalities, and other heat-related illnesses. It is particularly relevant in industries where workers are often exposed to high seasonal temperatures and strenuous physical exertion. To prevent heat-related illnesses and ensure the safety of workers, it is essential to accurately measure heat stress exposures and proactively mitigate heat stress risks. Multi-point wearable systems have emerged as an effective solution for measuring and mapping heat stress exposure in relation to workload over the course of a worker’s day.
In this session, we will discuss the current challenges EHS and IH practitioners face when implementing and sustaining heat stress risk management processes, and the challenges of measuring and managing dynamic exposures to heat stress. We will walk through how multi-point wearable systems can be applied to collect data on body temperature, humidity, and map this against their workload over time to understand the dynamic changes in heat stress exposure. Furthermore, we will discuss the potential benefit of using multi-point wearable systems to map heat stress exposure and proactively identify and mitigate areas of high risk. Finally, we will conclude this session by reviewing some of the outcomes that organizations have been able to achieve in driving risk mitigation for their heat stress programs.
